Spirit WirelessWaypoint Information Technology Inc., Guardian Mobility Corporation, Spirit Wireless and Globalstar were pleased to support the Baja Challenge desert race. Spanning one quarter of the length of the Baja Peninsula, and touching both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean at different points, the race circuit was a 707-mile continuous loop from Ensenada and back.

GlobalstarGuardian equipped each of the two-seat, open wheel cars with a satellite tracking unit that computed the latitude and longitude of each vehicle at regular intervals using the GPS satellite network. Every 5 minutes, a new position was transmitted to the Guardian network server over Globalstar communications satellites. The positions were then digitally plotted on a detailed topographic map of the route using technology developed by Waypoint. With location coordinates of each team acquired and transmitted every 5 minutes, a near-real time view of the teams' progress was shown throughout the duration of the race.

RACE REPLAY NOW AVAILABLE

In response to the tremendous interest and excitement generated by our tracking of the 2005 Baja Challenge Race, Waypoint Information Technology has modified the race web site to provide the capability to replay the race, and inspect the position of each car at any point in time.

Click on the LAUNCH button below to open the race map. The Playback window will already be activated. This mode will allow you to view the positions of the cars, changing every few seconds, advancing at a fixed time interval (every 5, 15, or 30 minutes) for the duration of the race.
